Executive board position elections for the 2021-2022 school year took place at the end of March. Any member can run for office. As per the newly adopted DTA bylaws, the president’s term will last for two years and all other positions will have a term of one year. If you would like to run for any of the following offices for the 2022-2023 school year, elections will take place in the spring. Please notify Blair Howard at bhoward@djusd.net with your name and the position you intend to run for:
President

Find a description of each position’s role and duties below (from DTA 2020 Bylaws):
The President shall:
a. Be the chief executive officer of the Association and its policy leader.
b. Be official spokesperson for the chapter and endeavor to publish a regular newsletter for membership.
c. Be responsible for progressing toward the goals of the Association.
d. Endeavor to promote the interests and purposes of the Association, and shall be held responsible for its work and progress.
e. Familiarize themselves with the Constitution and Bylaws of the Association, the CTA and the NEA, and act as liaison between the Association and the CTA and NEA.
f. Preside over all meetings of the Executive Board and of the Representative Council.
g. With the approval of the Representative Council, appoint all representatives of the DTA to community organizations and committees not otherwise provided for.
h. Suggest policies and plans for standing and special committees.
i. In cooperation with the secretary, draw up a calendar of meetings for the year, and provide the agenda for each meeting.
j. Act with the officers of the Association to draft a preliminary budget which will be presented to the Representative Council in May.
k. Submit an annual report in writing, at conclusion of their term, setting forth the accomplishments of the past year, and making recommendations for the next year. This report shall be passed on to the incoming president and a copy filed with the Secretary.
l. Attend UTP meetings as directed by the membership.
m. Serve for two years in office, until the first Monday in August. The President may serve two consecutive terms, with no limit on terms served within their lifetime.
The Secretary shall:
a. Keep a careful record of the proceedings of all meetings of the Association, the Executive Board and of the Representative Council.
l. Copies of the minutes shall be distributed to all members of the Representative Council no later than three school days prior to the next regularly scheduled meeting.
2. Copies of the minutes of Representative Council shall include the names of those members not in attendance and the school they are representing.
3. Keep an accurate roll of all Representative Council meetings.
b. Maintain and publish in Representative Council minutes the calendar of all meetings of committees, task forces, special committees, subcommittees and study groups which are acting in official capacity for the DTA, Inc.
c. Support President in creating agendas for Representative and Executive meetings
d. Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Representative Council.
The Treasurer shall:
a. Be responsible for the collection of all dues.
b. Have charge of all funds of the DTA, Inc., and shall deposit them in a bank in the name of the DTA, Inc., and shall disburse them by check only, as authorized by the Representative Council or by the DTA, Inc.
c. Co-sign all checks with the President.
d. Present a written financial report, including all expenditures and encumbrances, on request for Executive Board; Representative Council; and DTA general membership meeting.
e. Present their financial records to be audited annually in a manner prescribed by the Representative Council.
f. Submit information and financial reports to the Chapter, CTA, NEA and other agencies as required by law.
g. Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Representative Council.
The First Vice President shall:
- Serve as assistant to the President in all duties of the President
- Assume the duties of the President in the absence of the President or resignation of the President, or in times of conflict of interest for the President.
- Oversee the duties of contract maintenance role with Second Vice President
- Assist in all other duties as assigned by the President
- Serve as the chair of the Contract Maintenance Committee
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Representative Council.
- Be nominated and elected for a term of one (1) year, with that year ending by the first Monday in August.
The Second Vice President shall:
- Oversee the recruitment and supervision of the site representatives
- Assume the duties of the Vice President in the absence of the First Vice President. In the case of the absence of President and First Vice President, the Second Vice President will serve in the duties of President
- Assist in all other duties as assigned by the President
- Oversee the duties of contract maintenance role with Second Vice President
- Serve as the chair of the Contract Maintenance Committee in the absence of First Vice President
- Attend all meetings of the Executive Board and Representative Council.
- Be nominated and elected for a term of one (1) year, with that year ending by the first Monday in August.
The Social Chair shall:
- Arrange to pick up and provide lunch to new hires at the district orientation session before the start of school
- Bring and distribute DTA t-shirts to new members on orientation day
- Maintain inventory of DTA shirts and open orders with vendors throughout the year as needed/requested. Distribute additional t-shirts purchased by members to them as needed
- Provide refreshments at each representative council and executive board meeting
- Organize the annual retirement dinner event in partnership with the district. Duties include: arranging and/or providing for beverages, providing certificated members with a certificate of service and a gift, helping set up and breakdown decorations at event, communicating with retirees and attendees
- Celebrate members’ five-year milestones at DJUSD by ordering years of service certificates and working with the district to acknowledge these members at an organized event
- Support other members with events in the year as appropriate (ex: campaign events, celebrations, rallies, union actions, etc).
The Organizing Chair shall:
- Conduct and lead organizing committee monthly meetings
- Endeavor to recruit members from various sites, grade levels, and positions to participate in organizing committee
- Update member spreadsheets with personal contact information throughout the year, as provided by site reps
- Update CTA member data throughout the year to maintain accurate records
- Collect new member sign-ups and registration on orientation day/new hire training
- Forward membership sign-ups to human resources at the district
- Deliver CTA member cards to site reps and members throughout the year
