- Notice that a practice of the district or a site admin is in violation of a specific article of our contract.
- DTA has a duty of fair representation. If we know Admin/District is violating the contract, we are legally obligated to address the issue.
- Grievances are not about an individual member but about all members. The contract applies to everyone.
Examples of Grievances:
- Teachers are directed to monitor students during their prep time
- The inclusion teacher is unable to take lunch or prep because of a lack of coverage
- Admin is not following the evaluation process
- directing educators to attend SST’s during lunch
- Refusing DTA time to make announcements during meetings
- Scheduling after-school meetings on Tuesday
- Requiring work before the start of the contract year
Your job as rep:
- Advocate for members at your site, new teachers are frequently impacted by requests from Admin and are often afraid to say no due to probationary status.
- Create an email trail: if it has to do with the contract, it must be documented, or it does not exist. Do not communicate issues with Admin via text messages.
- If meeting, be sure to document the contract issue by emailing a meeting summary.
- Inform the Grievance Committee within 25 days. Submit your concern here.
